Kansas Health Science Center (KHSC) is a nonprofit institution with the goal of opening the proposed Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (applicant status- seeking accreditation). KHSC strives to positively impact the health care landscape in Kansas and beyond.
Connecting Kansans to Better Health Care
Everyone deserves access to quality health care. However, this isn’t the reality for many in our community. Many of our citizens lack basic access to health care, and there is a nationwide shortage of physicians, which is anticipated to increase over the next 10 years. This will directly impact our state and the citizens who need access to care. One study found that 92 counties in Kansas are considered partially or wholly underserved, due to a lack of physicians. Rural areas in Kansas would need 83 new primary care physicians each year to fill the void.
At Kansas Health Science Center, we’re bringing our communities together to solve this issue, harnessing the power of collaboration and local partnerships to reshape the way we approach health care in Kansas. We believe in serving local communities and using a team-based approach to medicine that focuses on the whole patient—not just symptoms.
Transforming Modern Health Care
The development of our proposed new innovative medical school (applicant status-seeking accreditation) in Wichita will create a reliable talent pipeline within the region with the goal of developing professional careers and strengthening the connection to surrounding communities along the way.
Our state-of-the art facilities will incorporate the latest advances in medical technology. Additionally, we will work to address the diverse needs of our community through advancing whole-person approaches to treatment and care—understanding the importance of our interconnected systems and how lifestyle or environment can affect our well-being.
